About this site
Welcome, this is the portfolio blog of Richard Collins a 'full stack' software developer, working remotely from the sleepy little town of Whanganui, New Zealand.
Twenty-five years into my career, it is about time I put something substantial about myself up on the internet. You see, searching for work by just responding to job ads with your CV tends to be pretty hit and miss. Let's try and make it easier for everyone by showing what I can do.
'Full stack' software developer? 'Full stack' just means I can do the whole thing, not just the 'front end' - the bit you can see, or the 'back end' - the bit hidden away on a server in the cloud, or the database or the architecture, or the whatever. I am a generalist, I can slot in where you need me, or give me the responsibility and I will make the whole thing happen for you.
What kind of software do I develop? I have the most experience with web and mobile apps. I started my career with desktop applications, but have not done any of this kind of work since around 2005. I dabble a little with micro-controllers, but have not done this commercially since 1999.
What technologies do I have experience with? Well, you may as well go look at my CV.
